So, we bought this popcorn popper. At one time in our marriage, we did have a popper, but in one of the moves, it was left behind. Since then, we have been content to survive with microwave popcorn. However, we wanted to make carmel popcorn, and thus I took the kids with me to the store to find a real popper. They have used Grandma's popper often, so I was surprised at the sheer joy they exhibited when we took home our very own popper.
I was soon to find out why my babies were blissful that we finally had our own popcorn popper:
Now we were really and truly a family.
What?
Turns out, they had been helping my parents wrap a wedding gift for a friend some time ago. The kids were curious about why these people would want a popper, and somehow the conversation ended up teaching them that having a popcorn popper is one of the ways that you know the couple love each other and that they are a real family now. And of course, that makes sense, since your Mom and Dad have a popcorn popper, don't they?
Um, no.
So, this whole conversation was something I didn't really know about until it was revealed at the time that we actually did purchase a popcorn popper and I was privy to the joy and bliss that Brian, Casey, and Abby shared with us that their family was finally a real family. It kind of makes me wonder what they thought about all those FHE lessons we've had about temples and eternal families. And about all the times we have talked about how blessed we are to be a family and have each other. Hmmmmm...
Hooray for Popcorn Poppers!
Really funny, actually. Maybe you had to be there to appreciate it. Just a reminder to me that kids take just about everything at face value and are truly genuine.
